The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has withheld the Certificate of National Service (CNS) of a Lagos-based corps member, Miss Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye,” and extended her service year by two months.
In a statement on Sunday, the NYSC said the disciplinary action followed her absence from the April 2025 monthly biometrics clearance, contrary to the provisions of the NYSC Bye-Laws.
The service dismissed reports that the decision was linked to her public criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing such claims as false.
“Rita is among the 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for valid disciplinary reasons. Specifically, Rita’s service year has been extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance,” the statement said.
The NYSC stressed that the extension was a standard procedure applied uniformly to all erring corps members, with no political motive involved. It added that similar sanctions had long been imposed on those who failed to meet clearance obligations.
Miss Uguamaye had drawn public attention in March after she posted a viral video on TikTok, where she criticised the Federal Government over worsening economic conditions, rising inflation, and hardship in the country.
The NYSC urged the public to avoid politicising the matter, noting that it remains committed to discharging its mandate in line with the constitution.
