Former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has called for stronger regional cooperation as a lasting strategy to end the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.
Sheriff made the call while speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme hosted by Seun Okinbaloye. Responding to questions on how to permanently defeat the terror group, the former governor emphasised the importance of Nigeria working closely with its neighbours.
“What should be done is that we have to have proper relationship with Cameroon, Chad and Niger,” Sheriff said, stressing that effective cross-border collaboration is key to dismantling Boko Haram’s regional networks.
Sheriff, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also spoke on the political journey of Vice President Kashim Shettima, stating that he played a pivotal role in his entry into politics.
“I brought Senator Kashim Shettima into politics. He was a banker before. He was working in a bank,” Sheriff revealed.
