Ex-CAN President,, Mbang Passes On @ 86

The Methodist Church of Nigeria has announced the demise of its Prelate Emeritus, His Eminence, Dr Sunday Mbang at the age of 86.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Conference Secretary of Methodist Church Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Babatunde Taiwo to all Arch Bishops/Trustees and Lay President of Methodist Church, Nigeria.

According to the statement, Dr Mbang died on Tuesday, May 16 after an impactful earthly ministry of 44 years.

The late Prelate Emeritus enrolled at Trinity College, Umuahia in 1962.

Mbang, who was the longest serving Head of Methodist Church, Nigeria, was until his death the Emeritus President of World Methodist Council, Trustee of Methodist Church, Nigeria and Nigeria Inter Religious Council.

He was the first Patriarch Champlain and Bishop of Tinubu, only person to be both Patriarch and Prelate.

The statement noted that Mbang, who was also the First Black President of World Methodist Council, would be surely missed by the Church and his associates.

Details on the burial, according to the statement would be announced later after due consultation between the family and the Church. 

Mbang, was among the founders of Fathers of Faith, who prayed and endorsed Governor Udom Emmanuel’s successor, Mr Umo Eno, now Akwa Ibom Governor-elect.
