APC Sweeps All 57 Chairmanship Seats in Lagos Council

The party also clinched 375 out of the 376 councillorship seats contested, with the only exception being a single seat in Yaba LCDA, which was won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd), disclosed this at a post-election briefing held at the commission’s headquarters in Yaba.

She said the elections, conducted on Saturday, were largely peaceful and credible, with no major incidents of violence or disruption recorded.

“The exercise was generally peaceful across the state. There were no reports of ballot box snatching, voter intimidation, or any form of electoral violence,” she said.

Present at the briefing were the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, Deputy Director of Operations, Department of State Services (DSS), Dr. Shehu Shehu, and other LASIEC commissioners.

Justice Phillips praised the maturity and peaceful conduct of voters, noting that their participation demonstrated a strong commitment to democracy and grassroots development.

She also commended security agencies for their professionalism and vigilance during the polls.

On challenges encountered, she admitted that some polling units experienced delays in the arrival of electoral personnel and materials, but said swift intervention by LASIEC and security operatives helped minimise disruptions.

The LASIEC boss explained that councillorship results were collated at the ward level, while chairmanship results were collated at the respective local government headquarters in line with the LASIEC Law 2008 (as amended).

She announced that certificates of return would be presented to the elected officials at the commission’s office in due course.

Justice Phillips appreciated civil society groups, traditional rulers, market associations, youth and women organisations, and persons with disabilities for their active involvement in the electoral process.

She assured that the commission would intensify efforts in voter education and engagement ahead of future elections, particularly to tackle voter apathy.

While congratulating the winners, she urged them to consider their victory as a responsibility to serve and not just an opportunity to celebrate.

“To those who emerged victorious, I say congratulations. But let me remind you that this is a call to service, not just celebration,” she said.

“For those who did not win, I encourage you to remain committed to democratic values and seek redress through legal and peaceful means,” she added.
