President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ismaeel Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), a key part of the federal government’s palliative efforts to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
This was announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The PCNGi is a government-led programme designed to promote the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) as a cheaper, cleaner, and more affordable alternative to petrol. The initiative forms part of the broader energy transition and social intervention strategy of the Tinubu administration.
Ahmed, 45, is expected to coordinate and oversee the operations of the initiative.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Abuja and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. He later obtained a Master’s degree in International Relations, Communications, and Diplomacy from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, in 2008.
The statement further noted that Ahmed served as Senior Special Assistant on the National Social Investment Programme under former President Muhammadu Buhari between 2018 and 2022.
His appointment is expected to drive the implementation of the PCNGi and support the federal government’s efforts to provide cleaner and more sustainable energy options for Nigerians.
