Yoruba Nation campaigner, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has stated that he remains on the Federal Government’s wanted list despite the change in administration.
Igboho made the disclosure on Wednesday while reacting to comments credited to Hajia Naja’atu Mohammed, a former Director in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Campaign Council. Naja’atu had queried why Igboho was allegedly moving around freely while the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, remains in custody.
The Department of State Services (DSS) had declared Igboho wanted in 2021 over allegations of stockpiling weapons and inciting violence in the South-West.
Speaking in a personally signed statement made available to The PUNCH, Igboho described Naja’atu’s claims as misleading and baseless. He insisted that the warrant issued against him during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari is still in force under President Tinubu.
“I’m still on the Federal Government’s wanted list, even under President Bola Tinubu’s administration,” he said.
He noted that he cannot return to Nigeria due to the standing security alert against him, stating that he currently uses his German passport to travel across Europe and other countries.
“My offence was speaking out against the killings of farmers, maiming of innocent residents, and sexual assaults on women by herdsmen in Yoruba communities, particularly during Buhari’s administration,” Igboho explained.
He recounted the attack on his Ibadan residence on July 1, 2021, where a combined team of DSS operatives and soldiers stormed his house in a bid to arrest him. The raid, he said, led to the death of two aides and the arrest of 13 others.
Reacting further, Igboho accused Naja’atu of turning a blind eye when Boko Haram insurgents and armed herdsmen wreaked havoc in the North and other regions during the Buhari era.
He added that only two Yoruba men—Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Bola Tinubu—have led Nigeria since independence, stressing the need for national fairness.
He also criticised Naja’atu for attacking Tinubu’s administration, noting that her outburst is part of a propaganda campaign targeted at discrediting the current government.
“People like her are uncomfortable with President Tinubu’s approach to tackling insecurity, especially because he has refused to rely on figures like Sheikh Gumi who openly interacted with bandits under the last administration,” he stated.
“She should stop dragging my name into her political propaganda,” Igboho warned.
