Tinubu Hails National Assembly for Ratifying Rivers Emergency Rule

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the lawmakers’ action was crucial in restoring stability after a prolonged political crisis that disrupted governance and threatened national economic security.

The President praised the National Assembly’s leadership for prioritizing the security and welfare of Rivers people above partisan interests. He also acknowledged the lawmakers’ thorough review of classified security briefings, which highlighted the urgent need for intervention.

“The crisis in Rivers State had reached a perilous tipping point, endangering vital oil and gas installations and undermining our national economy,” Tinubu stated.

He emphasized that the emergency measure was necessary to prevent further escalation, protect critical infrastructure, and restore democratic accountability.

The President assured that the six-month emergency period would enable the newly appointed Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (retd.), to stabilize the state and foster dialogue among stakeholders.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace and economic resilience, Tinubu said, “Today’s decision demonstrates what we can achieve when unity and patriotism guide our actions. We remain steadfast in building a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.”
