
The Ekiti State Government has announced that the February edition of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, emphasized that all markets and commercial centers will remain closed during the sanitation period to ensure full participation. She also noted that movement restrictions will be enforced, except for those on essential duties.
This month’s exercise is themed “Clean Environment, Healthy Living: Take Responsibility Today.” According to the Commissioner, the theme highlights the connection between a clean environment and public health while encouraging individuals to actively maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.
She stressed the importance of collective responsibility in keeping Ekiti clean and urged residents to adopt proper waste disposal habits and maintain good environmental hygiene throughout the year.
As part of the exercise, market traders are expected to clean their shops and stalls during the Thursday market sanitation, while government employees will tidy up their offices and surroundings on Friday.
Environmental Health Officers from the Ministry of Environment, Local Government Areas (LGAs), Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), NGOs, and security agencies will be on the ground to monitor compliance and enforce necessary measures.
The Commissioner warned that defaulters will face prosecution by mobile courts set up for the exercise.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, Aluko-Ajisafe urged residents to embrace the sanitation exercise as a collective duty for a healthier and cleaner Ekiti State.
