A Life of Political Struggle

Born on April 10, 1928, in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State, Chief Adebanjo was a lawyer, radical politician, and nationalist.

Before studying law in the United Kingdom, he started as a journalist. He was called to the English Bar in 1961 and soon became a key figure in Nigeria’s political landscape.

His political journey began in 1943 as a follower of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe in the Zikist Movement. However, in 1951, he joined the youth wing of the Action Group, aligning himself with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whom he considered a mentor.

Until his passing, Chief Adebanjo remained an active voice in Nigerian politics. He and Afenifere endorsed Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, underscoring his lifelong advocacy for progressive governance.
