Governors of the South West have resolved to establish a joint surveillance team to combat rising insecurity in the region.
The decision was reached on Thursday during a meeting of the Southwest Governors’ Forum at the Lagos State House, Alausa, Ikeja.
Present at the meeting were Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).
Key Resolutions
Reading the communique at the end of the meeting, Lagos State Governor and forum chairman, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the initiative is a response to emerging security threats affecting the region.
“The forum agreed to appoint special advisers on security in each state and establish a joint surveillance monitoring team to oversee and coordinate security efforts across the South West.”
To enhance security operations, the governors also committed to deploying advanced technology, including aerial surveillance systems.
Additionally, they resolved to strengthen intelligence gathering by fostering collaboration between state security operatives, local security networks, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Food Security Measures
Beyond security, the governors also agreed to establish joint food hubs to address food inflation and related challenges in the region.
