The Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, has stated that the growing calls for Governor Biodun Oyebanji to seek re-election in 2026 reflect the people’s confidence in his leadership and achievements over the past two years.
Speaking on the People’s Platform programme in Ado Ekiti, Olatunbosun noted that residents across political, social, and religious sectors have encouraged the governor to contest again. While Governor Oyebanji has not officially declared his intention, the commissioner emphasized that his inclusive governance and infrastructural development have earned him widespread support.
“Oyebanji, no doubt, has done well to deserve a second term. Ekiti people have been vocal about it. They gave him their mandate, and I can categorically say that he has justified their trust,” Olatunbosun said.
He attributed the administration’s success to the governor’s deep understanding of Ekiti’s needs, which has driven significant transformation across the state. Notable among these efforts is the redevelopment of the Atikankan slum in Ado Ekiti, previously a hub of criminal activities, into a modern Central Business District.
Additionally, the Oyebanji administration has facilitated soft loans for traders, helping them avoid exploitative interest rates from loan sharks while boosting economic activities in the state.
The Ekiti governorship election is scheduled for 2026, and as public support for Oyebanji’s re-election continues to grow, political observers are keenly watching for his official declaration.
