FG Speaks on Review of Minimum Wage

Speaking in Umuahia during a meeting with labour leaders in Abia State, Onyejeocha assured that the current minimum wage would be reviewed in less than two years.

She highlighted the President’s unwavering commitment to improving workers’ welfare, noting that all promises made to Nigerian workers would be fulfilled.

“We will not allow the review of the minimum wage to linger indefinitely. Previously, it was done every five years, but now it will be reviewed within a three-year cycle. This means the next review is less than two years away,” Onyejeocha stated.

The minister, an indigene of Abia State, explained that her meeting with labour leaders was an opportunity to reconnect with her constituents after spending the festive season in the state.

She urged the labour community to work collaboratively with the government to maintain industrial peace and stability, which she said is essential for national productivity.

“I reminded them of the need for a strike-free year, emphasizing that a peaceful environment fosters greater productivity and partnership with the government,” she said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abia, Ogbomna Okoro, commended the minister for her achievements in office. He expressed the NLC’s pride in her leadership and readiness to support her efforts to advance the interests of Nigerian workers.
