Police Narrate How Bride, Ex-lover Poisoned Groom, Guests

The wedding, held in the Jahun Local Government Area, ended in chaos after the groom and two of his friends fell ill from suspected food poisoning. One of the friends later died at the hospital.

According to preliminary police investigations, 15-year-old bride Zahra’u Dauda and her ex-lover, 22-year-old Lawan Musa, allegedly conspired to poison the groom’s food.

The incident is believed to have been motivated by personal vendetta, although the exact motive remains under investigation.

Police Confirm Arrest

In a statement on Saturday, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, confirmed the arrests and outlined the progress of the investigation.

“We have arrested the bride and her ex-lover in connection with the alleged food poisoning incident,” Adam stated.
“One Zahra’u Dauda, 15, of Bagata Gabas village, conspired with her ex-lover, Lawan Musa, 22, of Bagata Gabas Yamma village, to poison her husband, Kamisu Haruna, 29, of Albasu village in Jahun LGA.”

The suspects allegedly laced the food served to the groom and his friends, resulting in severe stomachaches. Adam noted that while the groom and one friend survived, the other friend was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

Investigation Ongoing

The police spokesperson revealed that the Criminal Investigation Department is interrogating the suspects and working to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure justice is served,” Adam said, urging calm among the public. He also called on anyone with relevant information to assist in the investigation.
