Oshiomhole Accuses Atiku of Divorcing Wife After Losing Presidential Election

Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, made the allegation on Monday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Calabar, Cross River State.

The former Edo State governor claimed that Atiku had promised to make Douglas, whom he described as being from the South-East, the First Lady if he won the presidential election.

According to Oshiomhole, the former vice-president married Douglas and established a foundation for her but later initiated divorce proceedings after losing the election.

He made the remarks while responding to what he described as Atiku’s repeated criticism of President Bola Tinubu, insisting that political leaders should be prepared to face criticism in return when they attack their opponents.

Oshiomhole said: “Like somebody said the other day that Atiku went to the Southeast and said, ‘If I win election, your daughter would be the First Lady, that was when he married Jennifer.

“Because he likes abusing our president, so we must reply: he married Jennifer, set up a foundation for her and at the end of the day, he lost the election, and he went ahead and divorced her; he took her to court, is that not true? We must have the courage to mention their names if they have no respect for mentioning our leader’s name.”

The senator’s comments added to the political exchanges between supporters of the APC and opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general election.
