Deputy Governor, Others Escape Plane Crash As Max Air Suffers Engine Fire

The flight, bound for Abuja, encountered trouble around 7 p.m. when a bird strike caused one of the engines to catch fire about 10 minutes into the journey.

The pilot immediately executed an emergency landing, bringing the aircraft safely back to Maiduguri Airport and averting disaster.

A Max Air staff member, speaking anonymously, confirmed the incident, stating, “Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft struck a bird mid-air, which caused one of the engines to catch fire. The pilot acted swiftly to ensure the safety of all passengers.”

Passengers were reportedly shaken, with many opting to collect their belongings and return home rather than continue their journey. Max Air promptly deployed another aircraft from Kano to transport passengers, including the deputy governor, to Abuja.

Among the passengers were other high-ranking officials, including a state commissioner, special advisers, and senior assistants.

The damaged aircraft remains grounded at Maiduguri International Airport for repairs. Authorities have assured the public of their commitment to passenger safety and commended the professionalism of the flight crew. Investigations into the incident are underway.
