Ekiti NASS Caucus Rally Support For Tinubu’s Tax Reforms

In a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, the nine All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers from the state emphasized the transformative potential of the reforms to enhance Nigeria’s fiscal framework and drive economic growth.

The statement, signed by Senators Opeyemi Bamidele, Yemi Adaramodu, and Cyril Fasuyi, as well as Representatives Olufemi Bamisile, Olusola Steve Fatoba, Biodun Omoleye, Rufus Ojuawo, Akinlayo Kolawole, and Akin Rotimi, described the reforms as aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s economic vision for inclusivity and prosperity.

Overview of the Tax Reform Bills

The proposed legislation includes:

  1. Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, 2024
  2. Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024
  3. Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2024
  4. Nigeria Tax Bill, 2024

These bills represent a visionary effort to modernise Nigeria’s fiscal framework.

The caucus stated, “These bills aim to strengthen Nigeria’s revenue generation system, ensuring sustainable funding for critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare.

“Additionally, these reforms will simplify the tax system, foster local entrepreneurship, attract investment, and create employment opportunities, thereby driving economic growth across the state and the nation.

“The establishment of the Tax Appeal Tribunal and the Office of the Tax Ombudsman will further entrench transparency, accountability, and fairness in tax administration, protecting taxpayers’ rights and fostering trust in the system.”

The caucus affirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote economic growth and enhance citizens’ welfare:

“As representatives of Ekiti State, we remain resolute in our support for initiatives that prioritise economic growth and enhance the welfare of our people. These reforms underscore our collective commitment to a better future, and we urge all Nigerians to embrace this bold step toward national development.”
The caucus, which has endorsed the tax reform bills, stated:

“We have actively participated in consultations and engagements across both Chambers of the National Assembly and remain fully committed to ensuring the passage of these bills in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“The caucus has also engaged extensively with stakeholders in the state, including the Governor Biodun Oyebanji-led administration, and concluded that for Ekiti State — and indeed all states — these reforms are tangible steps to improve the quality of life for our citizens.”
