The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, has congratulated Dr Joseph Bankole Filani, on his appointment as the 7th substantive Provost of Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Ogun State describing the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding academic excellence, integrity, administrative competence and exceptional professionalism.
Dr Filani’s appointment as Provost was announced at a special meeting of the 8th Governing Council of the College, under the chairmanship of Alex O. Eyengho.
In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Senate, Staff and Students of EKSU, Professor Ayodele, described the new Provost, as a distinguished alumnus of Ekiti State University, who has built an enviable reputation in the field of Guidance and Counseling, through his remarkable contributions to teaching, research and institutional development.
He noted that since joining the services of Federal College of Education, as an Administrative staff on the 30th March, 1999 before crossing to the academics Dr. Filani has consistently demonstrated excellence, diligence and professionalism, contributing immensely to the training of highly skilled graduates and advancing scholarship in the discipline.
Before his appointment, Dr Filani had served in the various capacity in the college among which were Deputy Provost (Academic), Coordinator of Degree Programme, Head of Department, Dean of the School of General Education, Director of Academic Planning. He also served as Chairman and member of many committees, in the institution.
The EKSU Vice Chancellor commended Dr Filani for distinguishing himself among the eminently qualified candidates, who applied for the enviable position by scoring the total highest valid votes cast.
He also expressed confidence that Dr. Filani would bring to bare in the office, his vast academic experience, exceptional leadership qualities, rich research background and proven administrative capacity to further strengthen the Federal College of Education as one of Nigeria’s leading Colleges of Education, in Nigeria.
Professor Ayodele urged the new Provost to continue to lead with vision, inclusiveness, transparency and innovation, while fostering teamwork and sustaining the culture of academic excellence.
Dr. Joseph Bankole Filani, who is to succeed the college incumbent Provost Dr. Rafiu Adekola Soyele, is an internationally recognised scholar, who bagged Bachelor of Education in Guidance and Counseling with 2nd Class (Honours) Division in the then Ondo State University, now Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti.
He also holds Master’s and Ph.D Degrees in Counseling Psychology, from the prestigious University of Ibadan.
