The Federal Government, in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has facilitated the return of more than 2,000 stranded Nigerians from Niger Republic, Libya, and Sudan between January and April 2025.
Information from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) shows that most of the returnees were brought back from Niger and Libya.
A breakdown of the figures indicates that 750 Nigerians were repatriated from Niger, 1,303 from Libya, and 140 from Sudan.
In January, 542 citizens returned from Niger and Libya, while 664 more were brought back in February. In March, 640 Nigerians were repatriated from Sudan, Niger, and Libya. April saw the return of another 347 individuals from Libya alone.
The figure does not include 231 Nigerians who were recently rescued from human traffickers in Ghana and brought back home.
Speaking on the development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, warned Nigerians—especially youths—against falling for fake job offers that promise opportunities abroad.
The Ministry urged citizens to verify any overseas employment claims through proper and official channels to avoid being deceived or trafficked.
