NUT, Oyo Celebrates Release of Abducted Victims, Describes Freedom as Victory for Humanity

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Oyo State Wing, has welcomed the release of teachers and learners abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, describing their freedom as a victory for humanity and a boost to confidence in the education sector.

In a joint statement signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the State Secretary, Comrade Olukayode Salami, the union said the safe return of the victims has lifted a heavy burden from teachers, pupils, students, parents, relatives, and stakeholders across Oyo State and beyond.

“Their release has brought immense relief to the entire education family. It restores hope and renews confidence in our collective commitment to safe learning environments,” the statement said.

The union noted that the incident tested the resolve of the education community. It commended teachers across the state for remaining united, steadfast, and prayerful while awaiting the safe return of their colleagues and learners.

The NUT expressed profound appreciation to the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Oyo State Government, security agencies, and all stakeholders who worked to secure the victims’ release.

The union urged government at all levels to strengthen security around schools and rural communities to prevent a recurrence.
