The Osun State chapter of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) elected new state executives at a congress in Osogbo on Friday, May 23, 2026, as the party outlined its strategy for the August 2026 governorship election.

Delegates from all 30 local government areas attended the peaceful congress, which produced Hon. Olalekan Enoch Ogunsakin as State Chairman. Other members of the State Executive Committee were also elected.
Speaking after his emergence, Ogunsakin thanked members for their support and pledged to run an inclusive, grassroots-driven leadership aimed at earning the trust of Osun residents.
The outgoing interim leadership said the party had expanded its structure across the state over the past year, with active executives now in all 332 wards. It reported that thousands of youth and women had been trained on political participation, and that mobilisation drives had been held in Osogbo, Ilesha, Ile-Ife, Iwo, and Ede. Partnerships with civil society and youth groups were also strengthened.
Outlining the party’s plan for 2026, the new leadership said it would focus on five priorities: a Door-to-Door for Progress campaign across all LGAs; a people-centered manifesto on jobs, agriculture, education, health, and infrastructure to be released in Q3 2026; coalition building with like-minded groups; voter education and protection; and digital outreach to engage first-time voters and Osun indigenes at home and abroad.
“YPP is not just contesting to participate. We are here to take the mandate and deliver governance that works for the youth, women, workers, and traders of Osun State,” Ogunsakin said.
The congress ended with a show of unity and a resolution to present a competitive governorship candidate for the August 2026 election.
The statement was signed by Hon. Animasahun Saheed Akorede, Publicity Secretary, YPP Osun State.
