Governor Biodun Oyebanji will seek re-election on the strength of his first-term performance and popular demand from Ekiti residents, with the All Progressives Congress targeting a minimum of 500,000 votes and victory in all 2,445 polling units in the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

Director General of the Biodun Oyebanji Campaign Organisation, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, disclosed this Wednesday at the council’s maiden press conference in Ado-Ekiti. He announced that the governor will officially flag off his second-term campaign with a mass rally at Ekiti Parapo Pavilion on April 27 to signal his readiness to serve the people on a higher scale.
“Governor Oyebanji will be campaigning on a record of superlative performance with verifiable indices on ground as attested to by the people who have felt the impact of his governance,” Fasuyi said. “This is also a mandate driven by popular demand.”
Fasuyi, who represents Ekiti North in the Senate, said the campaign organization and APC canvassers are working to win in all 2,445 polling units, 177 wards, and 16 local government areas. The April 27 rally, he noted, will complement ongoing door-to-door and street-to-street engagements that commenced after the Independent National Electoral Commission lifted the ban on open campaigning.
He listed infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, and job creation as areas where the governor’s record is already speaking in favour of the Governor ahead of the poll.
The campaign, he added, will be clean, peaceful, rigorous, and issue-based. “Every APC member is an equal canvasser and no one is a spectator,” Fasuyi said.
“This campaign is intra-local government, intra-ward, and intra-polling unit. We will market our record and our plan, not abuse opponents.”
On first-term milestones, Fasuyi stated: “Four years ago, former Governor Kayode Fayemi gave his would-be successor a clear mandate to surpass him. Governor Oyebanji accepted the challenge. Roads have been fixed across all 16 LGAs and 22 LCDAs. Schools have been renovated, teachers trained, and bursaries restored. Health centres have been comprehensively renovated, well-equipped, and properly staffed.”
He added that Ekiti is now ranked among Nigeria’s most secure states. On fiscal governance, the state scored 39/39 in Q4 2025, 100/100 as a Progressive Performer in Q4 2024, and topped the 2026 Subnational Audit Efficacy Index. Food inflation in Ekiti, he said, is currently the lowest in Nigeria. Other projects cited include the Ekiti Knowledge Zone and revived farm settlements.
Fasuyi also highlighted women’s representation in government, noting roles as Deputy Governor, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, Accountant General, and local government chairpersons.
“These are not claims. Drive on the roads, visit the hospitals, talk to workers, ask farmers. Performance speaks,” he said.
The Director General urged the media to verify all claims, shun propaganda, and reach out to the council for clarification. “We will not sponsor falsehood or exaggerate figures. The projects and policies are enough for campaign,” Fasuyi said.
Also speaking, former Presidential Political Adviser, Senator Babafemi Ojudu commended Oyebanji for good governance and purposeful leadership, saying the 500,000-vote target is achievable despite being unprecedented in the state’s history. He specifically praised the governor’s management of the state’s security architecture amid insecurity in neighbouring states.
Present at the briefing were Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, Chairman of the Campaign Media Committee, Chief Jide Awe, Special Adviser on Political and Allied Matters, APC Elders Forum chieftain. Chief Ronke Okusanya, members of the State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, and other party chieftains.
