A major political shift is unfolding ahead of the 2027 general elections as the Kwankwasiyya Movement has directed its members across the country to align with a new political platform.
In a fresh directive, the Kwankwasiyya Movement asked its supporters nationwide to register with the African Democratic Congress in preparation for the planned defection of its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the movement’s spokesperson, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, who confirmed that arrangements for the defection had been concluded.
According to the statement, Kwankwaso is expected to formally join the party on Monday, March 30, 2026, at his residence in Kano.
The planned registration will take place at Gidan Kwankwasiyya along Miller Road by 12 noon, marking a significant step in the political realignment.
Following this development, members of the movement have been instructed to register with the ADC in their respective wards, local government areas and states without delay.
The movement further urged its supporters to actively participate in party activities and contribute to the growth and success of the party at all levels.
Explaining the decision, the group said the move was taken in the overall interest of its members, Kano State and the country.
It also stressed its commitment to democratic values, good governance and the collective will of the people.
The statement added that the protection of democracy and respect for the people’s mandate must remain a priority.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has remained a strong political force in northern Nigeria under Kwankwaso’s leadership, largely operating within the New Nigeria Peoples Party. However, recent political consultations and alliances among opposition leaders have triggered speculations of defections and mergers aimed at building a stronger front ahead of the 2027 elections.
