ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION: Commissioner Commends Residents For Compliance In Ekiti 

Residents of Ekiti State have been commended for their high level of compliance during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise held today.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance, despite being away on official duty.

Director General of the Ekiti Waste Management Authority Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede, who represented the Commissioner during the exercise, monitored the cleanup efforts in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, stressing that most medians were cleaned. 

Mr. Onipede who highlighted the importance of proper waste disposal, emphasized the availability of “Dino bins” placed at strategic locations throughout the city.

The initiative aims to provide residents with convenient options for waste disposal, reducing the temptation of dumping it on medians, he said. He urged residents to utilize the Dino bins and refrain from indiscriminate dumping of wastes in medians.

While commending the public’s participation, government officials and security personnel encouraged residents to maintain their commitment to environmental cleanliness. They stressed the importance of keeping drains and waterways clear of refuse and debris, especially as the rainy season approaches. 

The Ekiti State Transport Management Agency (EKSTMA) was on ground to enforce a “no movement order” during the sanitation exercise, ensuring minimal disruption during the  sanitation

The Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation Mr. Tunde Balogun reminded residents of the state’s environmental health and sanitation laws. He urged them to comply with the regulations and avoid practices like dumping refuse on medians.

About 60 individuals who violated sanitation laws were apprehended and subsequently prosecuted before Magistrate Olubunmi Bamidele in Ado Ekiti.

The state government, through its various agencies, remains committed to providing resources and promoting responsible waste management practices to ensure a clean and healthy environment for all.
