Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has passed away.
The death was confirmed by her grandson, Bello El-Rufai, in a message shared on social media, where he announced the loss and prayed for her soul.
In the statement, he expressed gratitude for her life and called on the public to remember the family in prayers during the period of mourning.
The development comes at a time when the former governor is in custody following his arraignment by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over allegations involving public funds.
He had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him.
Meanwhile, proceedings in the case are ongoing at a Federal High Court in Kaduna, where Justice Rilwanu Aikawa adjourned the hearing of his bail application to March 31 after listening to arguments from both sides.
