Chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ekiti State, Amb. Prince Michael Ogungbemi, has been named a recipient of the prestigious African Community Heroes’ Award in the United Kingdom.
A statement from Ogungbemi’s office disclosed that the award, organised by the Global Skills Hub, UK, and Africa Heroes’ Project, recognises his outstanding contributions to grassroots development. A letter dated March 16, 2025, and signed by the organisation’s Country Director, Dr. Honey Olawale, formally notified him of the honour.
Ahead of the award ceremony, a leadership training session for all honorees across Africa was held virtually on April 26, 2025, during which Ogungbemi expressed his gratitude for the recognition.
According to the organisers, the award celebrates African leaders who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to integrity, professional excellence, community development, and national transformation.
The Global Skills Hub highlighted Ogungbemi’s achievements in public service, grassroots engagement, and sustainable development in Ajoni LCDA and Ekiti State as the basis for his selection.
In his reaction, Ogungbemi dedicated the award to the resilient people of Ajoni, pledging continued dedication to grassroots empowerment and inclusive governance. He also acknowledged Governor Biodun Oyebanji and former Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi for their mentorship and the opportunities given to him to serve and demonstrate leadership competence.
