The Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Fasina, has restated the commitment and determination of his administration towards strengthening the academic foundation of the Ivory Tower since 2021 that he took over the leadership of the Institution.

Professor Fasina reechoed this during the pre-convocation press conference held at the University Council Chambers on Monday, ahead of the School’s 9th Convocation Ceremonies.
The University boss explained that this has been achieved through the promotion of over 1,900 academic and non-academic staff, which underscores the commitment to the professional development and career advancement of the University under the Abayomi Fasina-led administration
Stressing that the promotions reflect not only the hard work of the staff, but also the recognition of their contributions to the intellectual and administrative life of the university.
The Vice Chancellor who pointed out that this year’s convocation is not just about degrrees conferral; but a celebration of FUOYE’s progress, the impactful contributions of the staff and students, and their ommitment to academic excellence, research, and community development, said they have also made concerted efforts to enhance the teaching quality, ensuring that FUOYE offers world-class education that equips students with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in the competitive global landscape.
“This administration has prioritised capacity development as a fundamental pillar of institutional growth. Through the strategic utilisation of TETFund interventions, we have created numerous opportunities for staff development, including Master’s and PhD programmes, conference participation, and book development initiatives, both locally and internationally.
“These efforts have not only enhanced the academic and professional competencies of our staff but have also positioned FUOYE as a centre of intellectual excellence and innovation:.
On Staff Welfare, Fasina noted that one of the cornerstones of his administration has been a deep commitment to the welfare of the staff.
In his word, “we understand that a university is only as strong as the people who make it function from faculty to administrative staff. Recognizing their vital role, we have implemented a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing their well-being.
Adding that staff promotions have been paired with improved benefits and support systems, including health and housing programs.
“We introduced rebates for staff on part-time programs to ensure that our staff have access to continuous education and professional growth opportunities.
“In terms of housing, the Staff Quarters Partnership with Federal Mortgage Homes has been a vital project, with discussions ongoing for the development of 200 housing units that will provide affordable accommodation for our staff.
“This initiative reflects our unwavering belief that a satisfied and supported staff is key to an institution’s success.” Said the VC.
Professor Fasina maintained that this year convocation is particularly special, not only because of the thousands of graduands who will be honored but also because Honorary Degrees (Honoris Causa), will be conferred on five exceptional individuals who have made lasting contributions to their fields.
They are: Senator Kanu Godwin Agabi, CON, SAN Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation,Chief Christopher Adebayo Ojo, SAN, FCI, CON – Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation, Mr. Segun Alebiosu, Managing Director, First Bank of Nigeria and Dr. Allen Onyema – Chairman, Air peace Airline
At the convocation which comes up on Saturday, 22nd February 2025, the Convocation Lecture would be delivered by the Executive Secretary, TETFUND Abuja , Architect Sonny Sylva Echono, at 9:00am prompt. While award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Conferment of Honorary Degrees would take place at the 1,000-Seater Auditorium at the University main campus at 12:00pm prompt
A total of 8,444 students will receive their degrees, including those from undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs.
“This marks the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance, and I am proud of each of our graduands who will join the ranks of FUOYE alumni and go on to make a mark in their various fields”. Fasina stated.
