The Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, is leading the state’s delegation at the 29th Conference of Parties (COP 29) climate summit in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The global event gathers leaders, experts, and stakeholders to tackle climate change challenges and promote sustainable environmental practices.
The Ekiti delegation comprises Dr. Akinyemi Akinyugha, Technical Advisor to the Governor on Green Economy and Ecological Matters; Dr. Oliver Owen, Technical Advisor on Climate Change; and Mr. Babatunde Akinola, Director of Climate Change and Natural Conservation.
The team has actively engaged in sessions focusing on climate adaptation, sustainable resource management, and the pivotal role of subnational governments in addressing environmental challenges.
Speaking at the conference, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe reaffirmed Ekiti State’s dedication to environmental sustainability and the importance of collaboration.
“Ekiti State is dedicated to advancing policies and programs that prioritize environmental conservation and sustainable development. This conference is an invaluable opportunity for us to learn, share our experiences, and form partnerships that will support our climate agenda,” she said.
The delegation has also connected with international stakeholders to highlight Ekiti’s initiatives and explore collaborations aimed at bolstering the state’s climate resilience.
The COP is the decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), with a mission to reduce global emissions and foster sustainable environmental practices. COP 29 serves as a critical platform for nations and regions to strategize and collaborate in achieving global climate goals.
