2026: Fayose’s Endorsement Won’t Avert Oyebanji’s Defeat – Ex- Commissioner, Funmi Ogun

The former Works’ Commissioner was confident that Oyebanji’s trouncing is imminent in the forthcoming poll in spite of the open endorsement of the governor by a former governor, H. E. Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose.

Funmi Ogun, said this in Ado Ekiti through a statement released to journalists on Friday and signed by her Media Adviser, Olayinka Atenibiaje.

The ex-commissioner said the Ekiti PDP is currently pursuing an internal and silent reformation exercise  ahead of the 2026 governorship battle, and that the party was neither rattled nor dazed by Fayose’s open endorsement of the incumbent Governor.

Funmi Ogun stated that the 2026 election will be  time for the electorate to interrogate governor Oyebanji on how he had poorly governed Ekiti in spite of huge proceeds of revenue pouring into Ekiti State from the federation account.

“The best way to get our democracy right is for us to allow all our people to demonstrate their democratic rights. So, Governor Ayodele Fayose as a leader is free to display his fundamental right and support whoever he likes, but this won’t change what Ekiti people were determined to do.

“In the last one year, Ekiti had consistently be receiving an average of  N6.5bn monthly from the federation account. The wage bill stands at N2.3 billion. Where has the rest of the money gone?

“As we speak today, the only visible project being spearheaded by this government is the flyover in Ado Ekiti, which is below 15% execution threshold, with no signal that it will be completed in  record time.

“Other road projects awarded to contractors are being executed at snail speed. So, people are ready to take their destiny in their own’s hands in 2026 in Ekiti.

“The recent endbadgovernance protests across the states of the federation was an eye opener that the game was up for the ruling APC at all levels of government. So, PDP is taking over Ekiti and we are preparing for it”.

“But by my own opinion, he is free to exercise his fundamental right to support whoever he likes. He remains my boss and someone I respect very much. I will never cast aspersion on him as my leader.
